Massy Stores Trinidad Hit by Cyber Attack
Massy Stores in Trinidad confirmed that it suffered a cyber-attack last week, which forced the company to close all 23 of its branches. Many of their stores remained closed for multiple days, while they worked with a third-party cybersecurity company to eventually restore operations at all of its branches. So far, the company has not found evidence that any customer, supplier, or employee data was accessed during the attack.
Coca-Cola Hacked?
Stormous Ransomware posted 161 Gigabytes of data on their dark web blog, purportedly stolen from Coca-Cola’s servers. The company has not confirmed the breach, but is investigating the group’s claims. Stormous is selling the data for $63,000 in bitcoin.
Austin Peay State University Tweets Hack
Austin Peay State University was hit with a ransomware attack last week. Since the email system was down due to the attack, they took a different approach, and sent out a notification from their official twitter account, asking staff and students to disconnect their computers and devices from the network. The I.T. staff contained the attack and restored the network a few hours later.
Fake Windows 10 Updates
There is a on-going campaign to distribute fake Windows 10 cumulative and security updates, which is actually Magniber ransomware. The downloads are distributed from fake warez and crack sites, and will encrypt the system’s files after installation. The threat actors are demanding between $2,600 and $5,200 in bitcoin for the decryptor. Windows 10 users should ensure they only download updates from verified sources.
