CyberSec Roundup
A synopsis of the Latest Cybersecurity News
The Ukrainian and Russian Cyber War
Russia on the Offensive
Before Russian troops on the ground invaded Ukraine’s borders, they had already started their assault on Ukraine’s cyberinfrastructure with DDOS attacks. Since Russia’s leader Vladimir Putin ordered the military’s mobilization, Ukraine’s Computer Emergency Response Team noticed a phishing campaign targeting Ukrainian military personnel.
Ukraine Defends and Counters
To help defend their infrastructure from cyber-attacks, there have been Ukrainian government-backed notices posted on forums online. An appeal is being made for volunteers to assist in defending critical government assets, and others to help offensively with cyberespionage attacks.
Support for Both Sides
Hacking groups such as Anonymous and Ghost Security have officially thrown their support behind the Ukrainian government and have launched attacks against the Russian government and military websites. However, other groups such as Conti Ransomware and RedBanditsRU have pledged to retaliate against anyone who launches cyber-attacks against the Russian government.
