Ransomware Attack on World’s Largest Financial Newspaper
The Nikkei company’s headquarters in Singapore was hit by a ransomware attack earlier this month. The financial newspaper, with a daily circulation exceeding 3 million, disclosed that the scope of the attack is being accessed, but customer information was likely stored on the compromised servers.
Chicago Public Schools Data Breach
A CPS vendor suffered a ransomware attack late last year, which resulted in the exposure of 4 years’ worth of records from ½ million students and 60 thousand employees. The district said there is no evidence the data has been misused but offered a year of credit monitoring and identity theft protection to those affected.
Cyber Attack at Arnprior Regional Health
The Canadian health network had its systems compromised in December last year, but only disclosed notice of the breach this week. Cyber forensic experts investigated the breach and determined that personal information and diagnoses of patients in various areas were accessed, dating back to as far as 1996. Arnprior stated there is no evidence of further misuse of the data and confirmed that any stolen data was deleted, which indicates it may have been a ransomware attack.
