CyberSec Roundup
A synopsis of the Latest Cybersecurity News
Riot Games Hacked
The team that released games such as Legend of Leagues and Valorant suffered a breach to the systems in their development environment. The company does not believe any personal information was accessed during the breach, which was caused by a social engineering attack. Riot Games also confirmed that patch and content delivery will be delayed as a result of the incident.
Paypal Breach
Paypal notified thousands of their customers that their accounts were compromised as a result of a cyberattack. While no transactions were made on these accounts, the account holder’s personal information was exposed. The company is offering 2 years’ worth of identity monitoring services to affected customers, free of charge.
MailChimp Attack
In a similar fashion to Riot Games, MailChimp also suffered a breach due to a social engineering attack. The threat actor was able to access 133 accounts and their mailing lists, one of which is the popular e-commerce platform WooCommerce, which is said to have 5 million customers. Email accounts on these mailing lists could become prime targets for targeted phishing attacks in the near future.
