A synopsis of the latest Cybersecurity News
The REvil ransomware group has claimed the regional conglomerate ANSA McAL as one of its victims. The extent of the damage is unknown at this time, but it has been confirmed that ANSA Motors in Barbados was affected, as their IT systems were down. There were also reports that a sizable ransom was paid to the attackers.
Ubisoft and Crytek, two video game companies, have had their private corporate data and source code leaked onto the dark web by the ransomware group Egregor. There are indications that these may be the results of phishing attacks. Neither company has officially reported any incidents.
The Seyfarth Shaw law firm disclosed that they were the victim of a ransomware attack last week. However, their IT department was able to prevent widespread infection of its systems. So far, it doesn’t seem that the attackers were able to steal any information, but the company’s email systems were down.
Barnes & Noble suffered a cyberattack which may have exposed some of their customers’ information. It appears to have been caused by a virus which made its way through the network.
