CyberSec Roundup
A synopsis of the Latest Cybersecurity News
The QEH Cyber Attack
Barbados’ Queen Elizabeth Hospital disclosed that they fell victim to a cyber attack last week. Since its internal I.T. systems were compromised by the attack, many operations at the facility were disrupted, such as radiology scans and prescription filling. The nature of the attack has not been confirmed, nor what data may have been exposed, but the hospital contracted a cybersecurity firm to help investigate the incident. It is likely to be a ransomware attack, as French and Colombian healthcare facilities also suffered similar attacks in the last few weeks.
EPM Ransomware Attack
Colombian Empresas Públicas de Medellín was hit with a major ransomware attack last week. The country’s largest energy, water, and gas provider suffered disruption to its operations. Customers utilizing prepaid services were severely affected, as they were unable to make payments to continue accessing their services. The attack has been confirmed as ransomware, with BlackCat Ransomware likely being responsible, but it is unclear how much data was stolen in the attack.
FuboTV World Cup Outage
Subscribers to the FuboTV streaming service were disappointed when they tried to watch the semi-final match between France and Morocco, as they were greeted with an error on the website as they tried to log in. The company confirmed its systems were compromised by a cyberattack and are receiving help from law enforcement and cybersecurity firm, Mandiant, to investigate the incident.
