The Largest Dark Web Marketplace Shutdown
The European Union Agency for Law Enforcement Cooperation have shutdown DarkMarket. The operation, which included help from other international agencies such as the FBI and the U.K.’s National Crime Agency also led to the arrest of the architect behind the website, Renukanth Subramaniam. DarkMarket was a hub on the stolen credit card information, drugs and malware.
Mimecast Hacked
The London based Email security management company has disclosed that a sophisticated threat actor compromised certificates used to authenticate their customers to Microsoft 365 Services. Mimecast was informed of the vulnerability by Microsoft, and indicated that it would have affected about 10% of their 36,000 customers. This breach could open up victims to a man-in-the-middle attack, where the attackers could intercept email traffic. Customers were asked to reset their connection within the 365 tenants to remedy the issue.
Elon Musk crypto scam
A cryptocurrency giveaway scam featuring Elon Musk was being promoted by compromised verified Twitter accounts. Attackers like to target verified accounts as they tend to give these scams a level of legitimacy. The scam seemed to be a successful one for the attackers as they were able to collect over $580,000 in bitcoin.
