Ransomware Attack on Palermo
The capital of the Italian island of Sicily, Palermo, was the target of a ransomware attack last week that caused major disruptions to all of the city’s public services and websites. The Vice Society Ransomware Group was behind the attack, as they threatened to publish the stolen documents on their dark web leak site if their ransom is not paid.
Confluence Servers Targeted
A serious vulnerability was discovered on Atlassian Confluence Server and Data Center, tracked as CVE-2022-26134. The flaw is already being exploited by hackers to deploy ransomware and crypto miners on vulnerable servers. Organizations are urged to apply the latest patch from Atlassian to protect their servers from this bug.
Ransomware Attacks Down
KELA Cybercrime Intelligence released a report that reveals ransomware attacks have dropped by 40% over the 1st quarter of 2022, compared to the same period of 2021. Finance was the main industry being targeted, along with manufacturing, professional services and technology companies in the US, UK, Italy, Germany and Canada. The ransomware groups behind the majority of these attacks were LockBit, Conti, Alphv, Hive.
