Kia Motors hit with Ransomware Attack
Kia Motors America was the victim of a ransomware attack last week. The DoppelPaymer group executed the attack, and they have demanded a $20 million ransom in bitcoin. The attack resulted in an outage of their IT systems which affected dealers nationwide. However, Kia officially stated there was no evidence that the cyberattack was a ransomware attack, despite the ransom note.
Kroger Data Breach
The Kroger retail chain is the latest to be affected by the Accellion FTA breach. Hackers exploited the vulnerability in the product and stole HR, pharmacy, and money service records. However, no grocery store, credit/debit card, or customer information was stolen.
Lakehead University Hacked
The Canadian Lakehead University suffered a major cyberattack last week. Many of the school’s services and its website were down as a result of the attack, and they shut down many servers and computers to contain the spread. The university is currently investigating the incident to determine the full scope and impact of the attack.
