CyberSec Roundup
A synopsis of the Latest Cybersecurity News
BlackCat hacks Pricesmart
BlackCat ransomware has claimed the cyber attack on Pricesmart’s network. The threat actors, also known as ALPHV, posted the company on their recent victims’ list, stating that they had over 500 GB of sensitive information relating to customers and employees. Pricesmart confirmed the cyberattack, but is investigating the impact of the incident and hasn’t confirmed the stolen information on the dark web is genuine.
Largest Commercial Bank in the World Hacked
The Industrial & Commercial Bank of China Financial Services fell victim to a ransomware attack last week. The attack caused disruptions to the company’s operations, and will likely expose information for many of its clients, given the size of the bank. Security researchers believe the NetScaler security bug, tracked as CVE-2023-4966, was exploited in this attack.
Ace Confirms Attack
Ace Hardware’s CEO confirmed it was hit with a cyber attack last month that severely disrupted the company’s systems. The world’s largest retailer-owned hardware cooperative also had to warn its retailers to be on alert for phishing attacks, as other threat actors have contacted them pretending to be IT support, asking for passwords, and also telling retailers to redirect payments to their systems while the company’s systems are down.
