American University of Antigua hit by Ransomware
The American University of Antigua (AUA) fell victim to a cyber-attack at the hands of the ALPHV ransomware group. The threat actors claim to have had access to the university’s systems for a long time, and will release the stolen information if ransom demands are not met. The university has not disclosed that they fell victim to the attack.
Massive Cyber Attack on Bermuda Government
The government of Bermuda suffered a massive cyber-attack last week that affected all government departments. Officials believe the attack originated from Russia, and has caused major disruptions as emails and telephone systems are down since last week. UK’s National Cybersecurity Centre and the National Crime Agency are assisting the island with the incident, and it is unclear if a ransom was demanded and what information may have been compromised during the attack.
BRA Phishing Scheme
Barbados’ Revenue Authority warned citizens to be aware of a phishing campaign that is targeting the country’s tax payers. Persons have reportedly received suspicious emails purporting to be from the BRA regarding their tax refunds. The emails attempt to deceive persons to reveal sensitive information that could be used to steal their identity and misappropriate their tax refunds.
