DDoS Attack on #2 Bank in Russia
The Russian state-owned bank VTB was hit with the largest cyberattack in its history, which disrupted access to its website and mobile app. A hacktivist called “IT Army of Ukraine” that supports Ukraine took responsibility for the DDoS attacks. The Ukrainian government officially gave its blessing to the group which was formed earlier this year when the war started.
French Hospital Hacked
Another healthcare facility fell victim to a ransomware attack last week, this time it was the André Mignot hospital near Paris. The hospital’s phones, internet, and computer systems were down, which led to the cancelation of scheduled operations and patient transfers. French authorities have opened an investigation into the attack, as this is the 2nd major ransomware attack on a French hospital this year.
Mercury IT Ransomed
The managed service provider (MSP) in New Zealand was hit with a ransomware attack last week. The company has clients in the country including government authorities, who would have been affected by the attack by not being able to access important government documents. An investigation is underway to better under the full scope of the attack, and its impact.
