CyberSec Roundup
A synopsis of the Latest Cybersecurity News
Toyota Affected by Cyber Attack
Toyota temporarily suspended operations in their Japanese factory last week after a supply chain cyber-attack. Kojima Industries, which supplies plastics and electronic components to Toyota, appeared to fall victim to a ransomware attack. This impacted their ability to ship parts to Toyota, and set back their production by approximately 13,000 units. The attack occurred just days after Japan publicly showed support for Ukraine in their war, however, there isn’t any evidence that the cyber-attack had Russian origins.
NVIDIA hacked and hacks back
NVIDIA confirmed they were the victim of a cyberattack in late February, where employee credentials and proprietary information were stolen. NVIDIA did not confirm that it was a ransomware attack, but the LAPSU$ group (who has carried out ransomware attacks in the past) claimed responsibility for the attack. A LAPSU$ member also claimed that NVIDIA tried to hack them back with ransomware, to prevent the release of the stolen data, but they had already made a backup.
LAPSU$ leaks Samsung Data
The LAPSU$ group has been busy recently, as they leaked 190GB of confidential data from Samsung. The leaked data included source code relating to Samsung device security, encryption, applications, and repositories. Samsung has not confirmed the potentially serious breach as yet.
